China plans new carbon measurement standards to boost climate efforts

The Ministry of Ecology and Environment, along with other relevant government bodies, will release the new "carbon footprint management system" for approximately 100 key products by 2027, expanding to 200 products by 2030. Priority will be given to standards for coal, steel, natural gas, aluminum, lithium batteries, and new energy vehicles. This move aligns with China’s commitment to carbon neutrality and its efforts to address the impact of Europe’s carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM). The plan also emphasizes international alignment of carbon footprint standards and encourages low-carbon consumption through pilot programs and policies.
